Endangered Sea Life

According to a study, the tropical reefs of the world are at a risk of being destroyed till the end of the century because of the rising ratio of acid in oceans. This is due to increase in the man-made carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The carbon dioxide in air dissolves in the sea water and forms carbonic acid. This disturbs the ability of coral organisms to make their calcium carbonate shells which form coral reefs.
People themselves are imposing threat to these fragile reefs. Tourists collect coral reefs as souvenirs by either directly breaking a piece or buying it in a tourist shop. Sewage, fertilizers and pesticides often run down into the sea. As coral reefs are close to the shore, they are exposed to these polluted materials.
